0:08 Early 20th century, the declination of the British Empire.
0:14 September 1939, Nazi invasion of Poland, start of WWII.
0:18 November 1939, Soviet invasion of Finland, start of the Winter War.
0:20 April 1940, Operation Weserübung, the invasion, and resulting occupation of the neutral countries Denmark and Norway by Nazi Germany.
0:23 May 1940, Nazi invasion of Belgium and the Netherlands.
0:25 September ~ October 1939, annexation of the Baltic states by the Soviet Union (the official joining of the Union wasn't until August 1940).
0:27 June 1940, fall of Paris to Nazi Germany, surrender of France.
0:29 September 1940, formation of alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan; the Axis Powers.
0:38 December 1941, Operation Barbarossa. One of the contributions to eventual German defeat was the Russian winter.
0:50 June 1948 ~ May 1949, Berlin blockade, intentional blockage of Western supplies for occupied Berlin by the Soviet Union (bit unsure about this part as it doesn't fit into the time line, but this is the best explanation that I've found).
0:58 September 1943, unconditional surrender of Italy, followed by the occupation of North Italy by Germany.
1:00 June 6, 1944, D-Day. The Allies land on Normandy beach and begin their fight through occupied France.
1:05 1945, advance of the Red Army into Germany.
1:10 April 25, 1945, Elbe Day, meeting of Soviet and American troops at the River Elbe, effectively cutting Germany in two. This short-lived pledge of peace between the two powers, while never having been an official holiday in any country, has gained new significance in the context of the Cold War (personally I liked the touch of olive branches - later becoming dead and scorched - behind America and Russia in this scene).
1:23 February 1945, Yalta Conference; The Four Policemen (not including France, who is standing).
1:26 August 1945, unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire.
1:27 May 1945, split of Germany by the Allied Forces.
1:30 June 1948, Berlin blockade, one of the first major international crisis in the Cold War.
1:33 In response, the West organised supplies to be delivered by air into Berlin. The Soviets lifted the blockade in May 1949, resulting in the creation of two separate German states.
1:37 March 1946, speech of the Iron Curtain by Winston Churchill. Reign of the two Superpowers.
1:40 April 1949, signing of the North Atlantic Treaty among the capitalist states, birth of NATO.
1:42 March 1955, signing of the Warsaw Pact among the communist states.
1:50 October 1956 ~ March 1957, Suez Crisis, Israel invasion of Egypt, interference from the UK and France, to the fury of the US and the USSR. This war marked the end of Britain's role as a Superpower.
1:54 Withdrawal of the French and British backed Israel, due to pressure from the US and the USSR; Canada's proposal for PKO (almost missed him there...) By the way, the Soviets also made a threat of full-out war on Britain and France in defence of Egypt (hence that smouldering hot look from Russia. Please allow me to bury my face in my hands and give a squeal, guys).
    1:57 1957-75, the Space Race.
2:10 October 1957, launch of Sputnik 1, the first satellite in human history, by the USSR. (Ураааааааааааааааааааааааааааа!!! ...cough. Just needed to get that out of my system).
2:24 1967, beginning of the US Apollo missions, with the first - Apollo 1 - ending in a disastrous fire during ground test.
2:26 1961, construction of the Berlin Wall to prevent massive emigration and defection.
2:43 October 1962, Cuban missile crisis, the moment in which the Cold War came closest to turning into a nuclear conflict. The US requested withdrawal of Soviet missiles positioned in Cuba; the USSR requested the same of US missiles in Turkey.
2:53 Soviet agreement to America's request, thereby ending the 13-day conflict.
3:00 Russia here appears to be ill, due to inner troubles the Soviet Union was experiencing.
3:10 July 1969, launch of Apollo 11 by the United States, first human landing on the moon. - "Houston, Tranquillity Base here. The Eagle has landed."
3:25 1989-90, end of the Cold War. Russia steps down from his role as Superpower.
3:28 1975, American defeat and withdrawal from the Vietnam War.
3:32 December 25, 1991, dissolution of the Soviet Union.
3:37 1990, fall of the Berlin Wall, unification of East and West Germany.
    - To the tomorrow yet unseen to us. May we always remember what we have, and what we should protect at any cause. We are the world, we are one.

Please feel free to point out any mistakes I may have made! This vid is a truly beautiful piece of work, it reminds us of what we should never forget, and at the same time, what we should never allow to get in the way of our present - that is precisely what I love most about Hetalia.
Well, 'side from the super hot guys, of course. (Vanyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Why you so cute it should be illegal to be so cute like seriously you're giving me a heart attack like omg I'm gonna shut up now.)

      @valypaly3 10 лет назад +18

I cannot thank you enough for this comment, I'm not exaggerating when I say that I learned more about history from both your comment and this video then I ever have. I agree, this video really is such a beautiful piece of work. You put it so perfectly ^^ About how we should never forget yet not let it get in the way of the present, one of my favorite morals about Hetalia. Take Germany for example, I grew up hearing nothing but negative things about them due to the Nazis. On top of that, me living in the US I'd hear bad remarks about Russia as well. But things really are very different today, I'm glad I know that now :) Again, fantastic list of the history in this video, thank you

    • @AnIc3ySw33tn3ss
      @AnIc3ySw33tn3ss 10 лет назад +9

Lunar Blossom Aww, thank you for the kind words! It made all the research totally worth it :') Hetalia really knows how to cure prejudice with laughter, doesn't it? If there's one thing the characters taught me, it's that deep down we've all got something in common - regardless of where we come from or what we believe. Because of my country's history, I've always loathed the Chinese with a passion. I can't say that I like them now exactly, but I've learnt to think outside my box just a bit more, and even grow to adore China's character; that's something I couldn't have even imagined doing before Hetalia. It's so nice that somebody feels the same way I do! ^^

    • @valypaly3
      @valypaly3 10 лет назад +6

AnIc3ySw33tn3ss Of course, I meant every word ^^ I can't thank you enough for all your research, and you're absolutely right, I remember when I heard about Hetalia for the first time and I was skeptical. From what I heard the show was about I was worried it would divide people even more. Not long into episode one I realized it was very much the opposite, it has everyone laughing even at themselves. The show really helps prove how bs stereotypes are, and that they are really only meant to be laughed at and not taken seriously. I'm curious, what country are you from? I think I can understand where such strong negativity might come from when looking at their past and things that still unfortunately plague them, due to communism I was taught to be wary of them. I realize now that things change rapidly in this world, and like you said I try to look at the big picture.
Even if I might dislike or be afraid of a country's government, I keep in mind that it's just not possible for every single person in a single nation to be bad or fit that country's stereotype. Everyone is an individual and although they can be influenced by where they live, most of the time it doesn't come close to defining them. I'm glad though that Hetalia has helped you so much, especially with China, I adore hearing stories like that! I was always very interested in other cultures, but now that interest has probably tripled. There is not one character in Hetalia that I dislike, and that alone is a huge accomplishment for this show. Especially with Germany, despite the bad stigma I've been taught to give them I now see them for what they are in modern day; which is a very interesting nation with a lot of great people, and he's personally my favorite character :)

I am soooo turned on by the sheer amazingness of this video. Best MMD I've ever seen! The little gestures that aren't usually there, the time of WWII and the Cold War, the various nations fighting, the attire, the expressions, and the last scene of all the nations as we normally see them... TOTALLY EPICLY AWESOME!! You've set the bar soo freaking high on MMDs that it was, aw!
I can't stop freaking over it, I can't believe I put off watching it! :DD

I LOVE THE AMOUNT OF REFERENCES IN THIS
    1. World War II, when it was Allies VS Axis, Germany fighting most of it, I noticed that France wasn't sitting with the rest of this Allies, since he was occupied, nice detail!
    2. Cold War, that was pretty much the whole video, with the different crisis:
-When America, England, France shared Germany with Russia, before it became the DDR (eastern Germany) and the BRD (western Germany) (YEAH I DONT KNOW THE NAMES IN ENGLISH OK I USED THE GERMAN ONES)
-Then the West Block "VS" the East Block, with all the communist countries behind Russia and the others behind America
-Then the "Rush to Space", when both Russia and America began projects to go to space (and Russia who sent Spoutnik, first human satellite, and later Gagarin first human ever in space, is that right?) (plus America raging over that LAL)
-The "Berliner Mauer", the wall of Berlin, built by the Soviet Union in 1961 (also built in Germany to separate the east and the west)
-The "missile crisis", aka the Cuba crisis (russian missiles being brought to Cuba by russian boats, in order to be aiming at America) and the american missiles in Turkey, aiming at Russia
-1969: first man walking on the Moon, by America
-Then Russia "gives up": change of leader, who wanted to spare what was left of the Soviet Union
-1989: Fall of the Berliner Mauer, both eastern and western Germany are reunified (I like how Prussia represents eastern Germany, I think that it fits him somehow)
Then the world isn't bipolar anymore ;D
It really shows, through real and historical facts, how much America and Russia have been chalenging each other, and thats quite cool! :D GGWP WHOEVER DID THIS
